All candidates will be required to write School of Business essay questions 1 and 2. Depending on your intended area of study, you will write questions 3 and 4 for your particular program. If you opt for two programs, you will need to write the essay questions for each of the two areas.

School of Business MBA and MA questions:

1. Why are you interested in pursuing a graduate management degree at this point in your life? What impact will this degree have on your future career? In addition, please describe your professional short and long term goals.

2. Describe two recent team projects you worked on, including a discussion of the group dynamics, your particular role in the team, how you contributed to the team and the results of the project. Please include at least one example from professional context.

MBA and MA program specific questions. For each program you select on the application (max. of two programs) write questions 3 and 4:

Accounting

3. Please describe work experiences you have encountered which have stimulated your desire for an advanced education in accounting.

4. Professional accounting has changed substantially over the past 25 years and continues to evolve today. Please describe the types of services provided by professional accountants which you feel are likely to grow and to decline in demand over the next 25 years.

Arts Administration

3. Describe the specific skills and abilities you hope to gain from the graduate degree program in Arts Administration, and the skills and abilities you would bring to the program.

4. Identify and describe a key issue facing the marketing, management, development, creation, or support of arts and culture today. Explain why you think this is a critical issue to arts administrators, and provide your recommendations as to how this issue might be addressed. Include specific examples from your own experience if applicable.

Finance - Applied Corporate Finance

3. Please describe your reasons for pursuing a graduate degree in corporate finance. Discuss your career goals and how the Applied Corporate Finance (ACFIN) program will enable you to meet them, why you should be admitted to ACFIN, and why you believe that ACFIN is a good fit for you.

4. Identify and list three critical corporate finance issues affecting businesses today. Select one issue to discuss in depth. Discuss why you think this is a critical issue and provide your recommendations as to how this issue may be resolved.

Finance - Applied Security Analysis

3. Why specifically are you interested in applying to the Applied Security Analysis Program? Why do you believe you are a fit for a career in money management?

4. Please describe your history of interest or participation in the area of investments.

Information Systems Analysis and Design

3. What areas of Information Technology are you most interested in studying, and how do these areas pertain to your future career plans?

4. Describe any IT skills you posses. Explain the impact these skills will have on your education, your fellow MBAs and your future as an IT professional.

MHR - Entrepreneurship

3. Describe an experience you have had with entrepreneurship (either starting, working in, or providing professional services for an entrepreneurial venture). How did it affect your career aspirations?

4. In your opinion, what is the key characteristic of an entrepreneur? Do you have that characteristic? Describe an experience that supports your answer.

MHR - Strategic Human Resources

3. To follow up on the question regarding your career goals, what would your ideal job look like after finishing your MBA in Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM)? What type of organization would it be in and what would your roles and responsibilities be there? Now, jumping ahead another 15 to 20 years, please consider the same questions. What would you like to be doing and in what kind of organization? Finally, in what way or in what area of SHRM do you hope to make your biggest mark and why?

4. Thinking of the plans you just described, what are your reasons for choosing to do an MBA in SHRM at the University of Wisconsin? What is it about our program that will help you achieve your goals? What are the advantages and disadvantages of our program relative to other programs for what you would like to do?

MHR - Strategic Management in Life and Engineering Sciences

3. In what ways have you been significantly influenced by your scientific and technical background? How have these influences shaped your career and personal objectives?

4. Why are you interested in developing skills related to the Strategic Management in the Life Sciences and Engineering -- or in Agribusiness -- at the University of Wisconsin in particular?

Marketing - Marketing Research

3. Please describe your reasons for pursuing a graduate degree in marketing research. Discuss why you should be admitted to the A.C. Nielsen Center for Marketing Research, and why you believe the A.C. Nielsen Center for Marketing Research is a good fit for you.

Marketing - Product Management

3. Please describe your reasons for pursuing a graduate degree in product management. Discuss your career goals and how this education will enable you to meet them, why you should be admitted to the Center for Product Management, and why you believe the Center for Product Management is a good fit for you.

4. Identify and list three critical product management related issues affecting businesses today. Select one issue to discuss in depth. Discuss why you think this is a critical issue and provide your recommendations as to how this issue may be resolved.

Operations and Technology Management

3. Discuss any personal qualities, experiences, or backgrounds you may have that you believe will contribute to your success in the operations/technology management area.

4. Describe two situations from organizational settings in which you played a key leadership role. Specifically, how did you contribute to the outcomes?

Real Estate and Urban Land Economics

3. Why are you interested in Real Estate as your area of concentration? What specific aspects of real estate most interest you, and why?

4. What specific qualities and skills do you bring to the study and practice of real estate? Given your short and long run goals (Question #2), in which qualities and skills do you think you need strengthening? How do you see your development in the next two years? Please be as specific and concrete as possible.

Risk Management and Insurance

3. Who are the individuals or what are the events in your life that have led to your interest in pursuing a master's degree in risk management and insurance? Please explain.

4. In what area of risk management and insurance are you most interested? Provide a discussion of why, including how pursuit of this area will support your career goals.

Supply Chain Management

3. Identify and list three critical supply chain related issues affecting businesses today. Select one issue to discuss in depth.

4. Discuss why you think this is a critical issue and provide your recommendations as to how this issue may be resolved.
